The clients brief was to transform a 40 + yr old mud-brick home they had just bought, to a comfortable home for themselves with the space to showcase their unique collection of furniture, rugs and artworks, all the while keeping the natural charm of the existing home.

Falling in a flame zone category we used Product such as Rammed earth, James Hardies Scyon Linea board, Matrix cladding ‘Hardie smart system’ and Stegbar’s cedar double glazes windows BAL 40 rated Cedar windows with metal shutters achieve to our flame zone rating.

With the 118m2 extension protruding to the north of the existing home we incorporated an Atrium to bring light, solar gain and ventilation into the centre of the building and creating a warm architectural feature in the centre of the home.
Rammed earth was used externally at the entry of the home, connecting to and complementing the earthiness of the existing mud-brick home, then again to the internal atrium with one wall creating the entry feature with the opposite wall housing the Jet master fireplace and chimney which protrudes from the roof gaining thermal mass to the centre of the home.

‘This home is a visual art piece with the grounding of the earth to the warmth of timber and the flow of air and energy all connecting to the soul of a home well-loved.’
